Undercounter and column wine storage: zone temperature drift, condensation on the glass, noisy fans and the ventilation faults built-in cabinets create.

Wine storage is refrigeration with a narrower tolerance and a glass door. The narrow tolerance is the point of the appliance, and the glass door is where most of the problems start. In a coastal house that spends half the year at high humidity, a wine cellar is working against the room in a way a refrigerator never has to.
A dual-zone cabinet does not contain two refrigeration systems. In most designs one system serves both zones, and the split is managed by a damper, a fan, or a combination of the two, with a sensor in each zone reporting back to the control.
That matters for diagnosis. If the upper zone holds 55°F and the lower zone has crept to 62°F, the compressor is working. The fault is in the air path or in the sensor for the drifting zone. We read both sensors, compare them against an independent probe placed on a shelf overnight, and check whether the damper is actually moving.
If both zones drift together and the compressor runs without stopping, the question becomes the condenser, the ambient temperature around the cabinet, or the sealed system. Sealed-system work is done under EPA Section 608 certification, which is a federal refrigerant-handling credential held by our technicians and not a manufacturer credential.
Undercounter wine storage is built into cabinetry that was often designed around the door, not around the airflow. These units vent through the toe grille at the front, and they need that path clear. A grille blocked by a decorative panel, a floor mat pushed against it, or a cabinet base that was closed in during a kitchen refit will make an otherwise healthy unit run continuously and still lose the setpoint on a hot afternoon.
We check the clearance dimensions against what the unit needs before assuming a component has failed. A ventilation fix costs nothing in parts.
A wine cabinet door is a multi-pane assembly with a sealed cavity and usually a UV-filtering treatment. When condensation appears between the panes, that seal has failed and the door assembly is the repair. When condensation appears on the inside face of the glass, that is normally a door gasket or an alignment problem letting humid room air in, and it is a much smaller job.
Coastal humidity makes both more likely and more visible. In August, a cabinet holding 55°F in a room at 78°F and high relative humidity is sitting close to the dew point at the glass surface all day. A gasket that would go unnoticed in a dry climate produces a visible band of moisture here within an hour of the door being opened.
Compressor vibration transmitted into a cabinet carcass is both an annoyance and a genuine storage concern. The usual causes are simple: shipping bolts never removed, a levelling foot not in contact with the floor, an anti-vibration mount that has hardened with age, or a condenser fan blade fouling its shroud. All are worth chasing, because a unit that hums through a stone counter at two in the morning tends to get switched off, and a wine cabinet switched off in a Florida summer is worse than one running noisily.
Racks are part of this too. A shelf rail that has worked loose lets bottles rest against the liner instead of the runner, and the noise arrives with the vibration.
Note the setpoint of each zone, the temperature each zone is actually holding, and the room temperature nearby. If the unit is built in, tell us whether it can be drawn forward without removing a stone counter overhang or an adjacent panel.
